To celebrate the upcoming 2017-18 National Hockey League season, the Columbus Blue Jackets invited fans to attend The CBJ 5th Line Fest at the Columbus Commons. The outdoor event in the city’s premier downtown park gave fans the opportunity to meet Blue Jackets players, enjoy a stage show and celebrate the game of hockey with a host of themed attractions. The festival takes its name from a Twitter hashtag, #WeAreThe5thLine”.
In previous years the 5th Line Fest was held inside Nationwide Arena and was not open to the general public. For this year the team proposed to hold the events outdoors and open it to the general public as well as season ticket holders. Once the location was set by the team, MAG stepped in to execute a plan.
The plan was to divide off the park; one half for VIP season ticket holders, and the remaining half open to the general public. This was imperative to retain the “VIP” experience for the season ticket holders. The VIP section, a choice of “high end“ wines and beverages were provided with VIP tables and seating, the opportunity to have “personal” meet and greets with the Blue Jacket players.
The general public was afforded the opportunity to stand in line of an autograph, but in addition to autograph sessions with players, activities included a stage show featuring Blue Jackets players reading “Bad Jokes”, a display of NHL Trophies won by Blue Jackets at the 2017 NHL Awards, CBJ Mobile Tour, featuring replica player stalls, video & skee-puck games, interactive game stations including Top Shot to test slap shot speed and accuracy, a photo station, and food trucks and beverage stations with beer, water and Pepsi products, all managed and manned by MAG staff.
